Weekend Round-Up

It was generally a nice weekend.  Kicked Friday night off by visiting good friends J&Q and Baby O for dinner and playing Texas Hold’Em.  Unfortunately the Chicken Bomb calzone we enjoyed at dinner was not settling nicely and I said to Hubby “We have to go NOW” mid hand and hauled tush home.  We’ve known J&Q for years and their sense of humor warrants toilet jokes, but sometimes in those situations there’s no place like home.

Saturday I decided that I had waited long enough for a weed whacker and I NEEDED one immediately.  A weed whacker, really?  YES!  Even though we’ve “owned” our house now for over two years, it takes time to acquire this stuff.  There is just so much that you have to buy, especially when you’ve been yard-free for so many rental years.  Of course we bought a lawn mower right away but luxury tools like weed whackers, hedge trimmers, and soil tillers come in due time.  Now if I was thrifty (which I’m not) I would tag sale for these items.  Tag sale’n is HUGE in Nashua and I am sure there are some great buys but A) I never carry cash and B) I plan to have a house with a yard for a long time thus want tools that are going to last.  Although there was a bit of drama purchasing my weed whacker (first one I bought and assembled from Lowe’s was defective and returned. I then had to run into Sears in a sweat soaked tee shirt to buy a DEPENDABLE brand) I eventually had it and went to work on the yard.

NOTE: Those who venture up to NH for my Labor Day weekend BBQ, please don’t have high expectations for my yard because of all the sweat and time I devote.  It is a work in progress and quite the mess, especially with weeds that are out of control and bald patches from dog urine.  To think that I nixed the summer plan to plant new grass because I was dreading daily watering, jokes on me Mother Nature.

Sunday I had the day to myself.  Hubby was heading off to Albany to help his sister move and I had RSVP’d to a reunion BBQ.  Now I don’t need to take the Myers-Briggs to know that I walk the line of Introvert/ Extrovert and sometimes I feel like backing out of social engagements.  Sunday I totally wanted to just chill and hang with the dog.  But I had made a commitment and I like to think of myself (and be known for) as a person who honors commitments so I crated the pooch and headed to the BBQ.  Plus it is not often that there is an event with college friends that is in my backyard (really 20 minutes away).  Well I am glad that I went because I ended up having a really nice time catching up and hearing about the lives of smart, family orientated, educated women (and 1 man).  One of the reasons I was a little nervous about going was that the turnout seemed to be light and I was not sure how comfortable I would feel.  But the smaller crowd led to interesting conversation, atypical from the usual “here is my life since college synopsis”.   I ended up staying longer than I anticipated and was happy that didn’t back out.

Score:

Extrovert M, 1

Introvert M,  0

I can totally relate to how you feel. I think the score is very uneven for me-introvert seems to win more often lately. Can't wait to hear details of the reunion - will you be attending the wedding this weekend??
