The Inconstant Gardener

So I took a friend by surprise this weekend when she found out that I was a gardener. So I decided to share some pictures of my lovelies and also share some of the passion I have found in gardening. I grew up with a super green thumb mother......and I would sometimes help her weed back in the day. That was the extent of my gardening. But once I bought my own home, keeping up any curb-side-appeal was a necessity. Now I admit that I "inherited" a bit of a yard.......but that only applies to trees, shrubs, and hostas, the rest was up to me. I have found joy in the garden for a few reasons, here they are:

-Me time, the hubby hates yard work and lets me be.
-Watching things grow. I get a sense of satisfaction watching plants and flowers that I have planted flourish and grow. Not just over the season, but over the years my perennials have done very well.
-Something in common with Mom. She knows everything about gardening. I love the fact that the day lilies she brought from her garden in CT two summers ago are flourishing nicely in my NH yard and need to be split this fall.

-Rose of Campion and Dahlias (I planted some OTHER brillant red/white Dahlia tubers earlier this spring that are growing but have not bloomed yet)

Manhattan Lilium....needs splitting this fall...the bright salmon color is amazing.

Dianthus.....butterflies love but I have been a slacker with pulling dead buds so it looks a little weak.

Chicks and hens....the upcoming Dahlias are over powering...this will need relocation.

This rose bush looks a little odd since I pulled up the cedar fence that once supported it. I have not had the heart nor strength to dig it up, especially when in full bloom. I have 5 of these total.

Lastly a side bed that I have been working on. Variation of liliums, daisies, and annuals. The Lupine in the right corner is done for the season. Dahlias in the back hopefully will bloom in late July......The bed itself needs some filling in, but that will come with more additions and years of growing.

As I mentioned, all a work in progress...I will keep you posted on those dahlias........

Very nice! I, too, hope I grow a green thumb someday soon.

I am "green thumb" too, like you my mom was into it. I love it! I can't wait to have a yard. You're flowers are beautiful. Maybe those lilies can go full cirlce and when I get a yard (someday) you can bring some over and we can plant them.

Love Ya!
